MILK PREFERRED.
LAUNCH OF MISSION SHIP. Coconut milk instead of ohampagne was used by Lady Carmichael to christen the London Missionary Society’s new three-masted schooner. It is the fifth boat named after John Williams, the pioneer missionary who was murdered by cannibals in the New Hebrides in 1839. The cost of construction will be borne by the children of the Congregational churches in Britain. As many of the society’s stations are served by Australian vessels, the society is reverting to a sailing ship in the interest of economy.
