WOMAN’S PREDICAMENT.
HUSBAND WITH STEAMER TICKETS. SYDNEY BOAT NEARLY MISSED. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) .AUCKLAND. May 12. A woman with two children nearly missed the Makura, which left Auckland for Sydney yesterday. The woman reached the wharf with her children iong before sailing time, but was unable to go on board the steamer because her husband, who had the tickets, had not arrived. The vessel was scheduled to sail at- three o’clock, and toward the sailing time the husband had not appeared. Fortunately, the Makura did not sail on schedule, but as preparations were being made for the vessel to depart the woman tearfully pleaded to the officials to delay the departure longdr. That could not be done, and preparations were made to bring the woman’s luggage ashore. At 3.10 p.m., however, the husband reached the gangway and gave bis wife the tickets. He was only just in time, and a few minutes later the gangway was lowered and the Makura left the wharf.
