DAME CHRISTINA MASSEY.
VALUABLE PRESENTATION. AUCKLAND, May 9. On the occasion of his visit to Mangere this week the GovernorGeneral, Lord Bledisloe, accompanied by Lady Bledisloe, called at the home of Dame Christina Allen Massey, widow of the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, and presented her with a gold collor or chain which is worn with the other insignia of a Dame Grand Cross of the British Empire. The star and badge, which are the other insignia of a Dame Grand Cross of the British Empire, were presented to Dame Christina some time ago. The collar or chain, which His Excellency presented, is a valuable and very ornamental decoration, and looks most attractive when worn on official ociasions. After the death of the late Prime Minister, in May, 1925, the King expressed a special desire that Mrs Massey should accept the Order of the Dame Grand Cross of the British Empire. For nany years Dame Christina was actively engaged in work on behalf of women and children, whose welfare she had very much to heart. She has been prominently associated with the Plunket Society, of which she was president, the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, the Victoria League, Free Kindergarten movement, boys’ institutes, and community clubs.
