CHARITY STAMP
INTERESTING FACTS. Various interesting facts in connection with the charity stamp issued over tho summer period were supplied to a reporter by Mr K. L. Collinson. Mentioning tho fact that tho stamps were issued in sheets of 80 stamps (13s 4d), Mr Collinson said this represented a sale of 7500 sheets, or 500,000 stamps. The total printing consisted of 50,000 sheets (four million stamps); so that the largo number of 3,400,000 stamps remained unsold. “I have no recollection of seeing a report that tho remainder have been destroyed, although I understood that that was tho intention of tho authorities when the issuo was first contemplated,” ho added. “Tho selling price of the remainder reaches tho astonishing total of £28,333 Gs Bd. Had all tho stamps been 6old, the sum of £16,666 13s 4d would liavo been available for charitable purposes. The figures for tho number of sheets issued are taken from a statement from the secretary to tho Post and Telegraph Department, reported in tho New Zealand Stamp Collector,” concluded Mr Collinson who added that as £SOOO worth of stamps was sold the sum for charitable purposes was £2500.
