WAIRARAPA AERO CLUB

AN INDEPENDENT UNIT. Per Press Association. AIASTERTON, Alay 8. In reply to a deputation which placed the claims of the Wairarapa Aero Club before him at Wellington to-day the Minister of Defence, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, agreed to grant the club recognition as an independent unit entitled to State financial and other assistance granted to clubs so recognised. The members of the deputation stressed the importance of Wairarapa from an aviation point of view. The club was firmly established, as might be 6een from its membership, the number of trainees under its auspices, the engagement of a capable pilot, the acquisition of a ’plane and the measures taken to secure the establishment of landing grounds. The club was no mushroom growth, but was solidly established. It was submitted that it was only fair and just that a district ns important as the Wairarapa should be accorded the recognition and assistance that had already been accorded other districts. The Minister said that he had not realised that the club was in such a strong position. A very convincing case had been presented. He agreed to grant the club recognition as an independent unit. Wtien the Minister was approached on the previous occasion he suggested amalgamation with the Wellington Aero Club.
