MOTHERS’ DAY SERVICE.

On Sunday the Y.M.C.A. are organising a mass meeting for men and boys to celebrate “Mothers’ Day.” The service will be held in tho spacious gymnasium commencing at 3 p.m., and a hearty invitation is extended to tho" men and older boys of Palmerston North to participate. The speaker will be Rev. C. id. Matthews. “No one earthly name has so many precious associations, includes so much, or is spoken of with more veneration that the word ‘mother 1’ ” Thus writes a great Frenchman in view of “Mothers’ Day” being remembered on Sunday throughout the civilised world. Mother stands as the one soul to whom we owe a debt that wo can never repay. She is the one wiio gave us our life; we are indeed part of her very soul and body . It was through here tender nursing and patient training in the earlier plastic years that we received tho faculties ot mind and soul that enable us to live our lives, enjoy them, and appreciate the things around us. During this training sho disciplined herself more than us, foregoing her social pleasure and relationships lor our sakes, never uttering a word of complaint, and it was through her industry that wo were given a decent start in life. Now that we are men, what have we given in return ? Let us foregathe on Sunday, in honour of mother, and renew our vow that never shall that fatal word “disappointment” bo written across our mothers’ love for us, and never shall it find a resting place in the life we live.
