GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION. OWNERS CONCERNED. Received April 12, 1 p.m. MELBOURNE, April 12. The shipowners view with concern the Federal Government’s intervention on behalf of the Waterside Workers’ Federation, whereby it is intended to specify by regulation common pickingM'aces for vessels at the ports of urne and Adelaide. The shipowners point out that volunteer workers object to having to come into close contact with former strikers under conditions which expose them to undue risks, and while the owners are prepared to obey the law they are determined to fulfil their promise to the volunteers of giving them preference of employment.
