LEVEL CROSSING SMASH.
. BUS AND TRAIN COLLIDE. ' : CHRISTCHURCH, April 9. Two passengers were injured this afternoon when a Christchurch-Timaru bus collided with a goods train at the Hornby level crossing, Tho bus nas not badly damaged. The injured were Archdeacon H. Purdias, of Geraldine, and Mrs P. H. Johnson, of Pleasant Point. ' Thp former, who was treated in Christchurch Hospital, was found to be suffering from- head injuries and shock, and his condition to-night was satisfactory. Mrs . Johnson, who was admitted to St. George’s Hospital, escaped with severe bruises ana shock. The chief damage the bus sustained was a badly battered bonnet and wing and g smashed windscreen. The Hqrnby crossing is regarded as ’quite, safe, the visibility on both sides being clekr and not obstructed. Thejdriyer of the bus, G- Macmillan, of Timarui had a lucky, escape front injury. Mrs Ward (Rakain), Mr aml Airs Pritbhard (Christchurch), and Cyril (Addington) suffered severe shock.
