VOTING SYSTEM.
A. AND P. ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE. CONSIDERED WRONG. Criticism of the manner in which voting for members of the committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Association was conducted was made at the annual meeting, yesterday, and the committee were recommended to revise the system. The matter was raised by Mr Thos. Webb, who criticised the method of block voting. They were asked to vote for the number of candidates corresponding to tlie number of seats vacant. Members often wished to vote for only one or two men, .but they could not do so. He had raised the matter at the last annual meeting, hut it had been shelved. Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., said that Mr Webb should have given notice of motion and, had he done so, the question could not have been shelved. Mr Nash supported Mr Webb’s contention that the method of voting for members of the committee was quite wrong. If 12 new members were required one had to vote for no more and no less, or else the vote was invalid. Every man was entitled to vote for whom he desired. Mr Webb moved that the committee be recommended to consider the matter. Mr J. H. Stevens, in seconding the motion, mentioned that lie had been returning officer for 10 years. The motion was carried.
