LAW CONFERENCE.

NEW ZEALAND SOCIETY. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 9. The third annual conference of the New Zealand Law Society will be held in Auckland during Easter week. A three-clays’ programme has been arranged. An opportunity will be afforded during tlie conference for the discussion of matters of importance to the legal profession and to the public. Several papers will bo delivered on matters of special interest. Two remits referring to tho legal consequences of accidents are of general interest. One proposes: “That, it be a recommendation to tho proper quarter that statements of witnesses taken by tho police in investigating ‘running down’ .ind accident cases be available to tho parties concerned or their counsel in my proceedings or inquiries.” Another suggests the need of legislation to bring the law relating to collisions on land into unison’with that relating to collision at sea, so that When, both parties are negligent tile damage' may be apportioned. In regard to the Magistrate’s Courts Act, 1928, a remit states that provisions for. appeals on points of law and matters of fact or on matters Of fact alone are unsatisfactory, and the Act should be amended so that .all such appeals will be by way of rehearing alone.

Tho social side of the conference, which will be under the control of a ladies’ committee, will be organised to provide for a reception by the president of the Auckland Law Society, Mr R. P. Towle, and Mrs Towle; a harbour excursion; golf and tennis at Titirangi golf links; an afternoon motor drive and a theatre party. A feature of the sports programme will be a men’s competition for a silver cup donated by the New Zealand Law Journal.
