CORRESPONDENCE

4 POPPY DAY. (To the Editor.) Sir, —The -annual sale of poppies to* be held here this year is on Saturday, 12th April, and. through ypur columns my association respectfully asks all members of the public to support the appeal by buying a j>oppy. The price is surely a small one, but the total received brings work, food and clothing to large numbers of unfortunate men and their wives and children. • I enclose a statement showing my association's receipts and expenditure . for the year ended 31st March, 1930, in connection with our unemployment funds. If it can be published in full I would esteem it a great favour as I would' like the public to know exactly what my asociation has been able to achieve in its unemployment scheme. The most important feature of this statement is the actual result, namely, that through .this association alone the sum of £378 Is Id disbursed for work led to £BB4 2s 2d being distributed to unemployed in wages. We are told that the coming winter will be a hard one, and as the result of Poppy Day reflects largely upon the amount of good we are able to do, I sincerely trust that our sales on Saturday next will eclipse all past records. Every poppy sold means an hour's pay for an unemployed man and food and clothing for his wife and children. The problem of unemployment is engaging the attention of the whole world, but each can assist to solve it locally by means of a small contribution that will scarcely be missed.—l am, etc., B. J. JACOBS, President R.S.A.. Palmerston North, April 7th, 1930. RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION. UNEMPLOYMENT AHf'nTTNT' IPM-.m
