’PLANE CRASH.

FIRE AND EXPLOSION. LONDON, April 7. It is believed that the German ’plane which crashed in the Caterham Valley, Surrey, at four o’clock this morning was returning to Croydon owing to the wireless having failed. When the machine crashed it caught fire and an explosion followed, blowing it to so many pieces that it was scattered over a hundred yards. It is doubtful if the cause of the disaster will be discovered, The pilot Herr Herren Wcssel, and the wireless operator, Herr Connert, were both frightfully injured. The Valley has a bad name and is avoided by English pilots in bad weather. Three disasters have occurred there ,with serious loss of life. Pilots descending to avoid mists become trapped among the hills and fly blindly into the slopes.
