FATAL ACCIDENTS.

TRUCKS IN HEAD-ON COLLISION. TWO MEN DEAD. Per Press Association. OAMARU, April 8. An accident occurred this afternoon a mile south of the Ngapara railway station, when two trucks met in a head-on collison. The driver of the smaller truck, Robert Taylor, aged 28, a married man with a young family, succumbed to his injuries before the arrival of the doctor. Walter Yardley, an elderly man, was removed to the Oamar’u Hospital suffering from grave injuries to the head and spine. He died at about 10 p.m. CAR LEAVES ROAD. MASTERTON MAN KILLED. Per Press Association. MASTERTON, April 8. A well-known resident of Masterton, Mr Francis William Pointon, urns killed outright to-night when his car left the road about 6i miles from Masterton. Deceased was returning to Masterton in company with Mr Ricketts. Tho car fell about 25 feet. Mr Pointon, who was driving, was thrown out, striking his head on tho culvert. The other occupant, although rendered • unconscious, escaped with minor injuries. Deceased -was a middle-aged man, and leaves a wife and family of four. He was in business as a commission and insurance agent. AUCKLAND INQUEST. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 8. An inquest was opened this morning by the Coroner, Mr F. K. Hunt, into the death of William Francis do Malmanche. The cause of death is thought to have been compression on the brain. Mr de Malmanche owned a farm of 900 acres at Matiere, near Taumarunui. On February 4, he and his wife, with some friends, were motoring up a hill between Matiero and Okahukura, when, at a slight bend on the top, the car shot over a bank and dropped about 250 feet into the river. Mrs de Malmanche died four days later. Her husband also was injured, but lie apparently recovered and lately had lived in Auckland. Evidence was given this morning by Robert Andrew de Malmanche to the effect that his brother was born in Christchurch 57 years ago and was survived by six children. Their father was still alive and was aged 88 years. A post mortem examination will be held to ascertain definitely the cause of death. Mr Hunt said that he would write to the Coroner who held the inquest over Mrs de Malmanche, and that it would probably save any further inquiry being held at this end. as a similar verdict, could be returned if it was found that death was the outcome of the accident.
