CUBA STREET QUARTERLY MEETING. The Cuba Street Methodist Church held its quarterly meeting last evening. Rev. J. D. McArthur, minister of the circuit, presided, and in company with him were Messrs. J. Candy and F. Collis, circuit stewards. Following the opening of the meeting with hymn and pray'er, the chairman welcomed several officers who were present for the first time. On the motion of the chairman, a vote of condolence was passed to Mr Hart on the sad loss of nie wife, this being carried in .silence. The chairman reported that the membership of the Cuba Street and Longburn churches stood at 230 and 16 respectively. Mr Collis presented the statement of receipts and expenditure, the income for the quarter being £164 8s 4cl and the expenditure £166 5s 4d, leaving a credit balance of £8 3s. A foreign missionary committee, with Mr G. G. Hancox as secretary, was appointed, Mr D. Sorenson, representing Longburn, also being on the committee. Owing to previously unforeseen circumstances, the church anniversary was postponed till May 4th. A Young People’s Sunday is to be held on May 18th. Mr Hopkins, secretary of the poung people’s department, reported that the main school now has a roll numbering 93, 11 having joined since the new year. Mr V. Screech reported that the Longburn Sunday School has a roll number of 37. The chairman moved that Messrs. J. Sands and R. Ayreton, accredited local preachers, who recently arrived on transfer, be placed on the plan, also that Mr J. \Vat6on bo placed on the plan as a “star” preacher. The meeting agreed that these steps be taken. The following resignations from office in the church were received with regret: Mrs Birch (Longburn) who has removed from the district; Miss N. Killick (benevolent steward) who has been transferred to Wellington. Miss G. Young, also a benevolent steward, resigned owing to indisposition. Mrs Wiseman was appointed to replace Miss Killick, with. Miss Dittmer as an associate. Mr J. R. Mclver (envelope steward) forwarded his resignation, and Mr J. Candy was unanimously appointed to the position, pro tem. Mr J. Watson was appointed official reporter to the press, Mr Flatt still being reporter to the Methodist Times. Mr T. R. Hodder gave a short report on the Methodist Conference which was held in Wellington during February. The speaker mentioned the alterations made in the methods of controlling the yoimg people’s work. Previously an office existed in each island, but the conference decided to 'establish a national youth office at Wellington which would control the work throughout New Zealand more efficiently than at present. The chairman remarked that the conference “had made history” in this departure. _ Rev.
