PAST MONTH’S WORK. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer Mr J. E. Menzies, reported to the Kairanga County Council yesterday as follows: —Twenty-four daymen have been employed, and six contracts are in hand. The crushor at Awapuni has been working for practically the whole month and another few days will give sufficient broken metal for maintenance work. The contract for the paving of Foxton Line has now been completed, the total length being 272 chains. As the Highways Board agreed to the extension of the work to carry the paving to the county boundary, tenders were called for the work, and one was accepted. Men are now employed making up the shoulders and banking on curves. It will not be _ possible to pave some of the corners till after the winter as they cannot be prepared in time. In the Taonui Riding metal carting to dumps is now almost completed. The motor grader has been over most of the ipore important roads. Portion of Aorangi Road has been cut back and graded. Nearly all the men are now employed on Foxton Line. Willow trees liuve been cut down on Foxton Line near the junction of Riddiford’s No. 1 road. Property owners have been written to . regarding trees, etc., obstructing the view of intersections on Longburn-Rongotea Road. In Mangaone Riding about 20 chains of Milson’s Line have been sealed with one coat of cold bitumen, •and the second coat will probably be put on this week. Footpaths in Seaforth Avenue are now being cleared of grass. Twenty chains of Setter’' Lino have been gravelled to give access to Mr - Earland. Metal has been scooped out of the Mangaone Stream on Kairanga-Bunnythorpe Road and some protective work done in the same locality. As applications for further main highways had to be sent to Wellington last month, the application regarding portion of Milson’s Line was renewed. Maintenance work has been carried out on a number of roads and a considerable amount of grading done. Work on the concrete culverts should be commenced this week. A tender was accepted for this work. The old tanks at Bunnythorpe cottage have been replaced with new ones of equal capacity. Surveys for the proposed deviations on the Main Highway in the Fitzherbert Riding are now in hand and plans for about two miles are completed. These will be forwarded to Wellington at once. Widening on the Main Highways is also in hand, the tnactor an I grader being employed. Improvements on Keeble’s Hill are now practically completed, but all banks will require making up as they subside. Metal has been carted to dumps in several localities. General maintenance work has been done on several roads. TREASURER’S REPORT. Savings Bank account), £22 Is; Linton Domain Board (on fixed deposit), £44 10s. The statement of outstanding rates was as follow: —Taonui Riding: Paid, £7417 15s Id;, unpaid, £B3 0s 6d. Mangaone Riding: Paid, £5508 3s 2d; unpaid, £l3O 15s 4d. Fitzherbert Riding: Paid £4249 13s sd; unpaid, £321 J2s Id. Total unpaid, £535 7s lid. TRANSFERS OF .LAND.
