STEAMER AGROUND.

Running aground in the French Pass at 2.30 o'clock this morning in thick weather, the Anchor Company n small steamer Alexander became securely lodged on soft papa rock. • , . The steamer Matangi was dispatched to render assistance, but effort* to refloat the Alexander were not successful. No further attempts will be made for a day or two, when the vessel is expected to float off on the making tide*. The Hull U , not damaged.
