NOTED HORSEMAN.
GRAY BACK IN DOMINION. REFUSED LICENSE IN AUSTRALIA. AUCKLAND, April 7. Hector Gray, the well-known horseman, who recently went to Sydney with the object of riding there if he got his license, returned to Auckland by the Niagara this morning. Gray said that he made an application to the Australian Jockey Club, but this was not granted. There was no reason given to him as to why his application was refused. He had letters from prominent citizens and racing men in New Zealand, and,was also willing to appear . before the'committee, but was not given an opportunity. Gray will reside in Auckland until after the Auckland Racing Club’s Easter meeting, and subsequently will take up his residence at Taknnini. If started in the Eajter Handicap, Pegaway will be ridden by Gray.
