“TIME FOR OVERHAUL.”
PUBLIC EXPENDITURE. COMMITTEE OF ECONOMISTS PROPOSED. HAMILTON, April 5. “The time is overdue for an overhaul,” said Mr R.' H. Feisst at the meeting of the Waikato Farmers’ Union, in introducing a remit: “That in view of the huge and rapidly, growing State and. local body debt, this 03nferen-ce calls upon the Government to set up immediately an impartial commission of economic exports to investigate fully and recommend economics.” ", Mr Feisst said that local body debts wore an increasing burden on production] In seconding, Mr G. N. Ziman said the activities of the ; Government should not be curtailed, but there should be ’a closer investigation of how the money was spent. The remit was carried. After a discussion the-following remit also was carried: _ “This conference is 6ttongly of opinion that any system of unemployment ’ insurance is unnecessary while largo areas of undeveloped land remain, and advocates partial development of undeveloped Crown lands on the group system as a forerunner to land settlement.” It was decided that closer 00-opera-tion of dairy companies in the marketing of their produce had become an urgent problem, and with a view to remedying this position the National Dairy Association should be requested to convene an early Dominion conference.
