CHEQUE FORGED.
YOUNG MAN GETS PROBATION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 7.. From tire back of the Court this morning a father’s voice was raised in an appeal for leniency for his son, who was charged with the forgery of a cheque. Mr Justice Ostler granted the young man probation for 18 months and suppressed his name. . The prisoner _£ad pleaded guilty m the Lower Court, and in reply to the usual question as to whether he had anything to say why sentence should not be passed, the youth replied: “No, sir.” “I would like to .say something, if I may,” came a voice from the back. “I am his father.” “Certainly, you may,” replied the Judge. / The father then told the Judge that hk son was not normal, and gave details of treatment for nerve trouble; He had been -sent to a firm at Ohura, and on being paid by cheque thought he could alter it. The father said that he realised he had made a mistake in sending the boy away from home, but he had believed it would strengthen him
