MANCHESTER STREET SCHOOL. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, April 8. Tho ordinary monthly meeting of the Manchester Street School Committee was held last night, Mr G. J. Fitzpatrick presiding. Also present were Billman and Fitzpatrick, Messrs Jas. Campbell (secretary), S. McDowall,". P. B. Desmond and T. S. Goldsmith. The headmaster, Mr R. L. Mcllroy, reported as under: "There has been a decided improvement in the attendance, due no doubt to the fine weather, the figures for the past four weeks being as follow: March 14, 440 out of total roll of 459; March, 21, 440.1; March 23, 440.5; April 4. 433.4 out of 455. Tho average for the month was 439.7, being 05 per cent, of the roll. Seven pupils were admitted and 19 left,-making the roll 455. The school was successful in retaining the Guthrie Shield and the McCorkindale Rose Bowl at the primary school sports. Tho annual swimming sports were held on March 12, a good attendance of pupils being present. Fourteen pupils passed the test for th» elementary and proficiency certificates for life saving, while 83 scholars have qualified for swimming certificates (48 learners, 25 proficiency and 9 merit). In addition, 57 children have been taught to swim this season. R. Dewe won the Haybittle Cup for the primary schools boys’ swimming championship. The school also again won the Guthrie Shield for the cricket competition. This being the last meeting of the present committee, I should like to express the thanks of the staff and myself for the cordial relations that have always existed between tho committee and ourselves.” The report was adopted and minor matters of repair are to be attended to. Only one nomination being forthcoming —Mr'W. F. Hill—to fill the vacancy on the committee caused by the retirement of Mr W. W. Andrews, the committee next year will be the same as this year with the addition of Mr Hill. • LYTTON STREET SCHOOL. There will also be no election for the position on the committee of the Lytton Street School, the committee having been nominated unopposed a 3 follow: Mesdames McCorkindale, Pearson, Messrs Jas. Penney, T. K. Hay, R. Heald, H. Parsonage, W. G. Short, J. S. Tingey and S. Chesterfield. The only alteration on the committee of this school is that Mre Pearson replaces Mrs A. E. Sandford, who has recently left Feilding. NOTES. Captain H. B. Burrell gave an excellent display of “stunting” over the town yesterday prior to leaving for the south again. The display waa easily, one of the best seen in Feilding and was much appreciated bylocal residents..
