AUSTRALIAN APPOINTMENT. SYDNEY, April 6. The Sunday Times is authoritatively informed that Lord Stonehaven’s successor is Sir Isaac Isaacs, who recently was appointed Chief Justice of the High Court. The Times adds: •Lb has long been an open secret that the Scullin Government is anxious that the new Governor-General should bo an Australian. It has accordingly recommended Sir Isaac Isaacs to the British Government.” Sir Isaac Alfred Isaacs was bom in Melbourne on August 6, 1855. He was educated at the Beechworth Common School, and studied at Melbourne University, where he gained the degree of Master of Laws. At the Bar he attained a large practice, his abilities both as pleader and advocate being conspicuous. In 1892 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly as momber for Bogong. Ho has been Solici-tor-General and Attorney-General in two Ministries. Sir Isaac was a member of the Convention which framed- the Commonwealth Constitution in 1897-93, and was elected to the first House of Representatives. He was elevated to the High Court Bench in 1905. ,
