SIR JOSEPH WARD.
STATE OF HEALTH. WILL HE RETAIN OFFICE? - (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, April 4. Will Sir Joseph Ward.retain the office of Prime Minister during -f he coming session of Parliament, providing the Government survives a no confidence motion? 'v . This is a question that is being asked in many quarters. Sir Joseph is still receiving treatment at Rotorua, and those personal friends who have seen him this week state that the veteran statesman is deriving marked benefit from the treatment. Sir Joseph Ward is as mentally alert as ever; it is only his legs that are giving him trouble. At the same time it is considered by many competent of judging that Sir Joseph may decide to relinquish office in view of the heavy strain involved during the coming session, which has every indication of being a very lively one. Should Sir Joseph deem it necessary to tajje this step for reasons which would be as deeply regretted by his political opponents as by his most ardent supporters, the future political outlook in New Zealand will be very interesting.
