SUSPECTED BY HEALTH OFFICIALS. RECENT BIRD~PUROHASERS WARNED. (Bv Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, April 4. Although the bacteriological evidence is negative so far, the history of the disease found among the pnrrots at Wanganui and the disease found in a human patient lends strong colour to the belief that it is ptsittocosis. This statement was made by officials of the Department of Health to-day. They have found that about 200 parrots were landed in Auckland at the end of January by an Australian dealer and distributed through the Dominion, the Wanganui birds being part of the consignment. “People who have had parrots for years need not feel alarmed,” 6tated the medical authority, “but those who have acquired them within the last few months should take every precaution in handling them.. They should be careful to. wash their hands after touching the birds. If the parrot shows signs )f poor health, they should immediately consult the nearest health officer.
