RAILWAY TRAFFIC
DECREASE IN REVENUE. , WELLINGTON, April 4. A revenue decrease of £36,749 and Bn expenditure increase of £18,446 are the features of the railway' returns (just issued) for the four-weekly period which ended on March 1 last. The total revenue’ for the period was '£735,191, compared with £771,940 for the corresponding period of last year, and the expenditure £571,884, as •gainst £553,438. ’ The North Island road motor services carried 265,336 passengers, an, increase of 10,819, and earned £BI9O, a decrease of £124. On the South Island road motor services 6838 passengers (an .increase of 962) were carried, and £529 (an increase of £8 was earned. ; ‘ The appended details from the railways' working account show the revenue and expenditure for the period under review, ' compared • with the figures for the corresponding period last year:— REVENUE,
ELEVEN MONTHS’ FIGURES. The total revenue from April 1. 1929, to March I .last was £7,487,863, a falling off of £32,487, ' and the expenditure was £6,773,994, a rise rf £472,162. Passengers carried totalled 10,772,810, including 3,018,587 who used the road motor services, and season tickets issued amounted to 608,188. There was a total falling-off of 116,166 in passengers and 182- in season tickets. . Goods carried totalled .6,572,321 lons,' an increase of 96,834.
