RONGOTEA.

(From Our Own 1 Correspondent). RONGOTEA, April 4. The usual monthly meeting of the Oroua Drainage Board was held on Tuesday, when the following members wero in attendance: Messrs. J. Gloyn (chairman), G. H. Davison, A. Goldfinch, 0, S. 11amlen, C. Thompson and B. Flynn. Mr 11. J. Schaw, Kaimatarau, awaited on the board to, request the' imprqving of portion of a drain running through his property. The overseer reported that the following drains had been completed: South branch (drain), north branch drain, and Campbell’s drain. The following had been partly completed : Main drain and Smith’s drain. ; The successful contractors for the cleaning of Burgess’s, Dalton, and Castalbs drains wore Messrs Clark Bros,, and for the Sandhill drain in ‘ two portions, Mr W. J. Lucas. Tenders are to be called for the cleaning of the following drains:' Campbell combination, Artisan, Milne’s and Bush drains. It was resolved" that 10 per cent bo added to all rates unpaid by March 15. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £4B 8s 7d. The first evening of the Rongotea Social Club was held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday, a large and enthusiastic crowd were in attendance, and after sornp keen and interesting gnmes were indulged in, the following were declared the prizewinners:—Gentleman, Mr J. N. Liggins; consolation, M. Morris. Ladies, Mrs A. F. Baylis: consolation, Miss H. Morris. After a dainty supper was dispensed, a very pleasant evening was terminated.
