LAND SETTLEMENT.
GOVERNMENT PURCHASE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 1. The acquisition by the Government of a further holding for closer settle-; ment purposes is announced, by the Minister of Lands, Hon. G. W. Forbes. The area is one of 140 acres, known as the Woodland Estate, two miles from Hastings, and it is to be made available for farming on a group settlement basis. .Eight dairy farms will be provided. This purchase brings the total area acquired by the State for closer settlement to approximately 51,250 acres. Sub-divided, the properties are nroviding about 150 additional holdings. TAPANUI ESTATE. DUNEDIN, April 1. Applications for sections in the Tapanui Estate, generally known as Brooksdalo, closed this afternoon. Fifteen applications were received for the nine sections, and the ballot will be drawn at Tapanui to-morrow, following the .examination of the applicants by the Land Board.
