HAWKE CUP.

FINAL MATCH OF SEASON. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MARTON, April 1. Following the narrow victory ot Rangitikei over Manawatu in the Hawke Cup challenge match, the selector of the winning side, Mr J. H. C. Broad, received a telegram from the secretary of the New Zealand Cricket. Council inquiring whether Rangitikei would be prepared to meet either of the other two challengers, Wairarapa and Nelson, whose claims to matches were in before the trophy changed hands. It had previously been decided bv the council that if Manawatu defeated Rangitikei it should not be called upon to oppose further challengers this season. Mr Broad replied to the council's secretary stating that ho thought it too late m the season for further matches ami pointing out the difficulty in getting tho selected team off duty, especially after the five-day match.
