RUNAWAY HORSE.
RIDER SUFFERS CONCUSSION. (Bv Telegraph—Special io Standard.) AUCKLAND, April 2. As a result of a runaway yesterday morning, one of the most favoured entrants for the hurdle events at the autumn meeting of the Whangarei Racing Club will not be able to compete, and his rider lies injured in the Whangarei Hospital. Several horses were returning to the stables after .exercising at Kensington .Park, but before leaving the paddock, E. K. Plaisted, the trainer and owner of Michael, suggested that on account of the horse's excited condition the animal should be led. Later, John Hughes remounted Michael and the horse bolted. . When turning a corner the horse slipped and crashed, throwing the rider over its head. Hughes was picked up unconscious and sent to hospital, suffering from concussion. After the accident Michael got up and dashed away again, only to fall when turning another corner. The horse was then recaptured, suffering from numerous cuts, and it is thought bleeding internally.
