SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
Per Press Association. TIMAItU, April 1. An accident occurred at the Neuclratel Asphalt Company’s plant, Pareora, near Timaru, to-day, as the result of which Mr Andrew Shanks, who resides at 'Waimate, had to have a leg amputated. Mr Shanks was adjusting a bucket elevator when the gears became engaged and Mr Shanks was drawn up the elevator, one leg being badly broken and mangled. The injured man, who is married, was conveyed to the Timaru Hospital, where the leg was taken off well above tho knee.
