CRICKET. PERTH, March 24. The Australian eleven defeated West Australia by an innings and 25 runs. A meagre attendance watched the inevitable finish of the match. The weather was most sultry. A’Beckett and Grimmett made short work of the batsmen, the innings concluding shortly after lunch. The Australian representatives were enthusiastically farewelled. Generally the team shows all-round capability, and there .are high hopes of its being successful in England. DAVIS CUP. LONDON, March 23. The members of tire Australian Davis Cup Team will play Switzerland at Zurich on May 2 and 3. RUGBY LEAGUE. LONDON, March 23. Three. New Zealand Rugby League players, Messrs Hardgrave, Hutt and Hall, who were brought froiii the Dominion in August to play, for St. Helen’s, have addressed a claim to the secretary ofthe club, demanding a guarantee of £3 10s a week for 52 weeks, regardless of football earnings: and secondly, a guaranteed benefit of £230 each as retaining fee. The committee rejected the demands, owing to the refusal of the New Zealanders to .allow the matter to remain in abeyance until after the League Cup semi-final, and all three have been omitted ' from the team to meot Wigan. . GOLF. NEW YORK, March 24. A message from Miami Beach states that the famous Lagorce open golf championship, in which Hagen and Kirkwood would have competed if they had been in America, was won by Melhorn with 285, Horton Smith being second with 286. Armour was third, and Burke Cruickshank fourth, with 291.
