Boiled sweets are to be supplied to the women in poor-law institutions of Romford, England, to balance the tobacco given to the men. The “ration” is 4oz. a week. Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire, was one short in the number of widows to exhaust 10s, given each year in “groats,” and the odd fourpence has been given to a widower.
