LINTON.

LINTON, March 24. A meeting of the Linton Sports Club was hold on Tuesday evening, when tho balancosheot was read. Tho receipts for tho recent sports and dance wero ±177 and the expenditure £BS 6s lid. Tho difference will be made up when tho present outstanding subscriptions are paid. An all-round declino was shown in tho receipts this year, tho principal ones being inmobers' subscriptions, honorary onicers’ subscriptions, and tho gate at tho sports. The total cost of tho dance was £2d. This consisted of orchestra, refreshments, and bus chargos. Tho receipts from the door yielded over £l7. It was considered that tho sports and danco wore very successful and votes of thanks' wero passed to the chairman, Mr Hampson, and tho secretary, Mr Crouchcr, was voted an honorarium in appreciation of his services. A meeting of the Bachelors’ Ball Committee was held on Thursday evoning. It was decided to hold a ball on April 11th if tho orchestra is obtainable for fnat date.

On Saturday tho Linton tennis team visited tho Kairanga Club, whero a very pleasant day was spent. The visitors wero tho victors, but almost all tho games wero vory evoniy contested and enjoyable, Linton winning by 10 sets to Kairanga’s 9 and 105 games to 100. A very dainty lunch and aftornoon tea wore served by the Kairanga ladies. The detailed results are as follows, the Kairanga players being mentioned first:— Men’s Singles.—K. Collis lost to Pringle 3 7, Lancaster lost to Beckett 6 —7, Davey beat Rix 7 —2, Turner lost to Sutherland 4 7, O. Collis beat Wilson 7—6, J. Davoy lost to Nash 6—7.

Ladies’ Singles.—Miss Martin lost to Miss Cusrin 3—7, Mrs Collis boat Miss Blake 7 —6, Miss Collis boat Mrs Aldrich 7—4, Mrs Turnor beat Mrs Knipo 7—6. Men’s Doubles.—Collis and Lancaster lost to Pringle and Beckett 2—7, Davoy and Turnor lost to Rix and Sutherland 4—7, 0. Collis and J. Davey beat Wilson and Nash 7—5. Ladies’ Doubles. —Miss Martin and Mrs Collis lost to Miss Currin and Miss Blake 5—7, Miss Collis and Mrs Turner lost to Mrs Aldrich and Mrs Knipo 3^—7. Mixed Doubles. —Mrs Martin and R. Collis lost to Miss Currin and Pringlo I—7, Mrs Collis and Lancaster beat Miss Blake and Beckett, 7 —-2, Miss Collis and Davey beat Mrs Aldrich and Rix 7 —l, Turner and Mrs Turnor beat Mrs Knipo and Sutherland 7—3.

The concert, which was to have been held on March 14th, in aid of tho Tennis Club’s funds, has been postponed indefinitely.
