HEALTH CAMP MOVEMENT.

CHAIN OF SITES SUGGESTED. PROVISION OF FUNDS. Expressing his keen interest in the children’s health camp movement the Minister of Health (lion. A. J. Stallworthy) in an interview with a “Standard” representative last evening announced his intention of promoting the establishment of a chain of permanent sites for the purpose throughout the Dominion. “I have come to Palmerston North for the express purpose of having a look at the Awapuni children’s health camp,” stated Hon. A. J. Stallworthy. “I am very keenly in favour of the movement, as the records show that most excellent results are being achieved. There is considerable room for amplification of the scheme. Although the proceeds of the Christmas seal campaign are not available —I am expecting them at any time—it is intended that the money this year shall be devoted to the development of permanent health camps for children. Wellington reoently formed an association with the object of fostering such camps,” added the Minister, “and a generous gift of five acres of land has been offered at Otaki. - I am looking forward to a very great development of the movement throughout the whole Dominion. The work is really an essential link with the school medical service. lam hoping to have all the valuable activities of the voluntary organisations now functioning co-opted with the work of the department, and steps are being taken in the direction of securing a national anti-tuberculosis association, with which others could be linked .up in a subsidiary manner, in order to develop a chain of camps right throughout tlxe Dominion.” . Commenting on the conference just concluded at Wellington in connection with the medical staffing of hospitals, the Minister observed that the proceedings had been of the utmost importance. '
