ANNUAL CONFERENCE. Per Press Association. THE HERMITAGE, Feb. 24. Tho annual conference of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of New Zealand (Incorporated), which was opened at Timaru on Thursday night, was concluded at The Hermitage, Mount Cook, over the week-end. The conference reaffirmed its opinion that the law should he amended to permit the publication of dividends on racing and trotting events. Hearty votes of thanks to Mr G. C. Codlin for his services on the Labour Committee, and to Mr John Coombo for his services on the Advertising Committee, were passed. OFFICERS ELECTED. Mr C. AA". Earle, C.M.G.,. was unanimously re-elected president. Members of all sections of the association expressed their keen appreciation of the valuable services of Mr Earle during the past year, and their gratification at his acceptance of the office for an« other term. The president referred to Sir Charles Fergusson’s message received on the eve of his departure from New Zealand conveving his appreciation of the assistance he had received, from the Press of the Dominio a during his term as Governor-General. It was decided to acknowledge the message, and to place on record the association’s pleasure at Sir Charles Fergusson’s thoughtful action. During the conference Mr H. H. Sterling, general manager of the New Zealand Railways, addressed delegates on railway matters. It was decided to hold the next annual meeting of the association at Rotorua.
