CANDIDATES FOR DANNEVIRKE. WORKERS AT AAVAPU'NI. (By “Binocular.”) Glorious conditions prevailod at Awapuni this morning for early track operations, but the plough, whereon all tho fast work was accomplished, was heavy with dirt and was a shade slow in consequence. A number of tho candidates for I>annevirke to-morrow were sent along. The Maiden Plato candidate He Wlranga (Reed) found Good Aero (W. Broughton) a shade too speedy tor him at tho end of half a mile run Lady Lackham (Trainer Kelly) had Brilliant Light (H. Gordon) as a companion over half a mile, but the latter was clear at the post, the journey taking 54 sec and the last three furlongs 39 2-ssec. Another local candidate for the Maiden Plate was also out, Black Acre (A. McDonald) being well clear of Streamer (Alistor McDonald) throughout in a half mile task. Both bad substantial poundages up and Black Aero required 1.10 to complete his task.

Lackham (Taylor), who claims two engagements at Dannevirke. was partnered by Adventus (Metcalf) over half a mile, the former clearing right away from his companion to run the four furlongs in 53 secs. Adventus figures in the Tahoraite Hack Handicap.

Winlock (Metcalf), who is down to make the trip to Blenheim, finished ahead of First Ruler (Kelly) at the close of five furlongs run :n 1.5 1-5. First Ruler, who does not always give of her best in training, returns to the hack ranks at Dannevirke. Dobbin (Mackie) had a slight advantage over Patearoa (Murray) at the end of five furlongs, the chestnut breaking 1.4 Kilorell, with his trainer up, galloped over the same distance earlier in the region of 1.6. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS.

The following riding engagements have been announced tor the Dannevirke meeting where Palmerston North horsemen and horses are concerned :

W. Broughton. —Mountain Heath, "Veronese, High Society, Lady Ronald, Royal Queen. R. J. Mackie intends being in attendance at the Blenheim fixture where he will ride Frillford, Dermad and other members of Prosser’s team. Winlock has been nominated for Blenheim and W. A. Quinlivan is making arrangements for the Paladin filly to make the trip although he will be at Dannevirke.
