THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A depression of the westerly type has crossed the Dominion and an intense anti-cyclone is moving from the westward on to the Tasman Sea. Winds moderate to strong westerly, backing soon to south-westerly and reaching gale force in places. Seas becoming lough on the West Coast and south of Castlepoint; moderate elsewhere in New Zealand waters. Strong southwest winds and rather rough to rough seas in the Eastern Tasman Sea. Weather changeable and, south of Cape Egmont and Castlepoint, squally; rain in most districts, more especially in the South Island, with- thunder at places. Temperatures becoming colder.
DISTRICT REPORT. CLOUDY CONDITIONS. The Government meteoYologist wired to-day :—The indications are for moderate southerly winds. There is a pro•pect of fair to cloudy weather. The barometer is rising slowly. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —lft.
