BUNNYTHORPE SPORTS.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. i RECORD ATTENDANCE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) BUNNYTHORPE, Feb. 24. The annual sports meeting of the Bunnythorpe Athletic Club was held on Saturday in fine weather. ’ The Glaxo Cup, to be held by tho winner for one year, with a miniature cup, for 1 most points in open athletic events, was won ; by J. Tolley, of Marton,. with six points, the ’ runner-up being J. Powell with five points. I Tho patron of the club, Mr J. Linklater, M.P., in presenting the cup to the winner, first congratulated the club on its well-con-ducted sports and said it wae one of the foremost clubs in tho district. Ho found . many members still on the committee who ' had been carrying on for a great number of • years, and thus the club was fostering good clean sport. Ho congratulated Tolley on his . win and expressed tho hope the winner ; would return next year and retain the tro- : phyMr Edward Clovely, chairman of the com- , mittee, thanked Mr Linklater for his pre- ; sence. [ The duties of judges were ably carried out ; by Messrs W. T. Maxwell, G. R. Donald, G. M. Ranson, J. O’Donnell and W. Glenn. Tho Faulkner Cup for competition between country primary schools, created much interest, Rongotea, Taonui, _ Milson and Bunnythorpe schools competing. Bunnythorpe school held the cup last year, and Rongotea beat it on Saturday by a small margin. The committee are to bo congratulated on their work carried out during the day, there being no delay, and tho 45 items on the programme were finished at 5.30. It was a record gathering and the gate receipts greatly exceeded those of past years and the entries in all events wore a record.
