Robert Bruce Anderson, farmer, of Otaki, has been adjudged bankrupt. “You are fined £2, with 10s costs for racing. You will have to be more careful in future.” This was the admonition of Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., when penalising a Chinaman, Joe Sing, who appeared before him in the Magistrate's Court to-day, charged with driving over the Terrace End railway crossing in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public. Inspector P. G. Patton stated that defendant was evidently having a race with another person when the offence occurred. He swung over and almost hit the footpath. The many ogtdoor activities in Wellington on Saturday were favoured with a particularly fine, sunny day, and the night was calm and mild. Yesterday morning, however, a strong northerly sprang up, so that had the rain which threatened fallen and laid the dust it would not have been unwelcome in many cases. Pine summer weather prevailed at Auckland durum the week-end, and outdoor sports and an excursion were well patronised. A light fall of rain at Christchurch overnight was followed on Saturday by fine weather, with a strong easterly breeze. Yesterday morning broke fine and very warm, with a north-west breeze, but a heavy shower fell at midday. However, the weather cleared at 3 p.m., although indications were for more rain. Saturday morning at Dunedin was sunny, with a light north breeze, and the afternoon was pleasant. Although the wind had increased, yesterday morning was showery, but the afternoon was fair.
