Strong northerly to westerly winds of gale force in places south of New Plymouth and Napier, backing to south-wester-lies. Rough on the West Coast and off-shore south of Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate, but rising generally in New Zealand waters. Strong north-westerly and later south-westerly winds to gales in the Eastern Tasman Sea with rough seas. Weather cloudy, unsettled and squally, with rain in most districts, but only scattered in the northern and eastern portion of the North Island; some heavy falls in Westland and Otago. Warm temperatures, but a cool change later. DISTRICT REPORT. SQUALLY AND CHANGEABLE. The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day :—The indications are for moderate to strong westerly winds and, after about 16 hours, backing by west to south and freshening.
