DIRT TRACK RACING.

WELLINGTON, Keb. 23. There was plenty of excitement at the Kilbirnie Speedway on Saturday night, when a specially attractive programme was presented. F. Pearce (Australia) and W. Kilmister (New Zealand) both made an attempt on the track record of 80 seconds held conjointly by C. Spinks and F. Pearce. Pearce was successful in breaking the record, and did the four laps in 78 3-5 seconds, his time for the first lap, 19 1-5 seconds, being a lap -record. Kilmister equalled the previous record for the total distance. ' Another exciting contest was the Kilbirnie Speedway Special Six Scratch Race, the final of which was won by E. Naylor. The Big Three International Match Race was one of the most popular events of the evening and was won by L. Van Praag (Australia) with 13 points. Kilmister gained second place with 8 points. E. Whittle was the winner of the special challenge match Some splendid racing was witnessed in the First Division Handicap, won b- T. Wilkinson. The first semi-final was rather a disastrous race, three out of the four riders falling in the last lap. E. Naylor was injured. A few minutes later, to the obvious relief of the audience, it was announced that the injury was not serious and that “Naylor was now 0.K.”
