(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Feb. 21. The Rongotea branch of the Women’s Institute held its annual picnic at the Onoua river on Wednesday afternoon, when about 50 members were present, including visitors from Kopane, Sanson and Palmerston North. After an appetising luncheon wa-: partuken of a short programme of events was held as follows: —Girls’ three-legged race: Miss Hunt and Miss Gray 1. Married ladies' three-legged race: Mrs Dyer and Mrs Dawbin 1. Girls’ race: Phyllis Frecklington 1. Married ladies’ race: Mrs Brogden 1. Treasure hunt: Miss A. Burgess 1. Competition for best frock (material not to cost more than 7s 6d) : Mrs SaJidcrcock 1. Mrs Maden •2. Girls’ competition for best frock (material not to cost more than 7s 6d) : Miss Phyllis Frecklington 1, Miss Stephens 2. The success of the afternoon was materially due to the work done by the president and secretary, Mrs J. Will and Mrs H. V. Caverhill, respectively.
