LIFE-SAVING.
MANAWATU SUB-CENTKE. The monthly of the executive of the Manawaui Sub-centre of tire ltoyal Life-Saving Society was held last evening, Mr W. C. Collier presiding. Also present were Messrs J. Christmas, G. ISeal, A. Trevena, W. Schwarz, It. Haddon, A. L). Campbell, J. T. Eahey, E. T. Vasey, B. l' 1 . Barlow, E. Werry, C. M. Isaacs, A. Ferguson and It. E. Small (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. L. Fitzherbert and D. C. Prior. In connection with a surf patrol at Foxton, the chairman stated that a club with some twenty members had been formed. There were some enthusiasts in the club, among diem being the four Hirinis, well known at swimming carnivals in the district. A demonstration had been given /ist week at the beach. He thought that the club would prove successful and they were trying to arrange for the visit of a Wellington team. He had promised the club any support required. A letter was received from the Foxton Surf and Life Saving Club asking for .affiliation, the request being granted and the affiliation fees for the current season waived. It was decided to place on record the sub-centre’s appreciation of the efforts of Mr Collier in connection with the foundation of the club. It was decided that the following events should be conducted at the sub-centre’s carnival: —Boys’ 33 1-3 yards handicap, girls’ 33 1-3 yards handicap, men’s 33 1-3 yards handicap, 100 yards Manawatu ladies’ centre championship, men’s 100 yards handicap, 100 yards open breaststroke handicap, ladies’ dive, men’s dive, flying squadron (four laps of 33 1-3 yards each), dual relay, towing race (second and fourth methods), life-sav-ing exhibition. Mr It. Haddon was appointed handicapper. The chairman reported that Mr W. L. Fitzherbert had consehted to open the carr ival. j A vote of thanks was accorded Mr E. Persson c or his rervices in drawing the design of the Herbert Smith Shield ana for drawing a map of the sub-centre’s district.
