WILDEN LAND BALLOT.
PROGRESS OF SURVEYS. CLOSER SETTLEMENT POLICY. (By Telegraph —Special to Standard). WELLINGTON, Feb. 5. The Alinister of Lands (Hon. G. W. Forbes) supplementing his announcement of the Government’s purchase of the Wilden estate, near fleriot, for subdivision, states that the surveys will be sufficiently advanced to enable applications to be received and a ballot to take place during the second week of April.. , . There are 24,000 acres of agricultural and pastoral country in excellent condition. , . - The Government’s total purchases of land for settlement now comprise 27 properties, aggregating 50,000 acres. There have been 126 additional holdings created as a result of this policy and a large proportion have already been taken up.
