The Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting was concluded at Wingatui on Saturday when Meprisant won the Guineas, while the Ranfurly Handicap went to Celerity 11. RACING IN AUSTRALIA. THE A.J.C. MEETING. ANOTHER WIN FOR NIGHTMARCH. SYDNEY, Oct. 13. The A.J.C. was favoured with fine weather and a large attendance for the concluding day of its spring carnival at Randwick on Saturday. The track was 6low, this being due to the recent wet weather. The New Zealand horse Green Linnet received pronounced • support from her connections in the Canonbury Stakes, but ran poorly and finished at the rear of the field. First Acre made a splendid bid for victory in the Waverley Hanadicap, but weakened in the final strides, losing the race by half a head. The steeplechaser Home Made appeared a possibility for his race, but he hit several fences in the latter stages of,'the race, causing him to weaken at the finish. Nightmarch established himself as a great horse by brilliantly capturing the Randwick Plate. Running last for most of the journey, he came in the final strides and smothered the opposition, gaining the verdict by two lengths. David’s Day, winner of the Canonbury Stakes, was foaled from Frosty Morn, who was presented by the New Zealand sportsman, Mr W.

G. Stead, to Mr Otway Falkiner, hie present owner. Hi 3 sire is David. New Zea-land-bred horses yesterday also filled the first three places in the Waverley Handicap. CAULFIELD CUP MEETING. PENTHEUS WINS THE GUINEAS. MELBOURNE, Oct. 13. Tho weathor was delightfully fine, and there was a large attendance for tho opening day of the Caulfield Cup meeting. Silent Guest put up a sterling performance in the Wcltor. Ho was second to last at the fivo furlongs, but finished brilliantly. The owner is Mr John Wren, who won a division of this event with Spear King a fow seasons back. Kaftan was prominent throughout and won the Debutante Stakes narrowly. Green Wave finished fast and looked a good thing, but was beaten by half a head. Kaftan was bred by his owner, Mr Clive Leonard, a member of the V.A.T.C. Committee. His rider, F. Dempsey, had won previously on Softon. High Syce was third early in the Caulfield Stakes, but won comfortably. This is Trainer Holt’s sixth success in the race. W. Duncan had won previously on Royal Charter. Nightlark led always in tho Steeples and had twenty lengths’ lead at the half-mile. He then tired and was | all out at the finish. Ponthcus was prominent throughout and won the Caulfield Guineas comfortably. Ho is engaged in tho Derby and Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. The time equals tho race record. Ho arrived hore from Sydnoy on Thursday. Highland had his fourth successive victory in the Toorak Handicap. He has now won £12,000 in stakes. The trainer is J. Holt, and tho jockey W.
