NEW FASHIONS

STYLES OF YEARS AGO. WOMEN BUYERS ALARMED. DISPLAY IN LONDON. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Received September 4, 12 noon. LONDON, Sept. 3. Women buyers were frankly'alarmed at the new season’s fashions displayed at Olympia to-day. The fashions soem suddenly to havo reverted to the type acknowledged a quarter of a century ago—such us the tucked-in 1 blouse, trailing skirts, “bits and pieces,” the old-time waistline, and some evening frocks with upward of a thousand yards of tulle, composed entirely of minute frills, and of ankle length. Obviously such fashions are good for trade, but whether the modern woman will consent to turn herself into an old-fashioned ballet girl in order to create industrial prosperity is questionable.

One writer cynically predicts that next year there will be a revival of the straw boater and the high starched linen collar.
