COUSIN OF THE DUCHESS.
ARRIVAL IN AUSTRALIA
THIRD-CLASS PASSENGER. MELBOURNE, Aug. 26. The Orama, which arrived to-day from England, has a passenger who is a first cousin of the Duchess of York. She is Mrs Marie Evelyn Ernest (formerly Miss Bowes-Lyon), and she is travelling third-class. ’ Mrs Ernest is accompanied by two women companions. She reluctantly admitted her identity to a newspaper representative and stated that she did not want any more publicity than could be avoided. Mrs Ernest has indifferent health, and she travelled third class for special reasons. She is the last surviving member of her branch of the family. Her six brothers lost their lives during the war. Apropos of the story from Australia that the Duchess of York’s first cousin was a third-class passenger on the Orama, the Bowes-Lyon family state that they are not aware of any relative visiting Australia. One member stated: “If she is my sister-in-law she has not lost six brothers at the war.”
