SCHNEIDER CUP.
« ITALY’S POSITION,
MAY YET PARTICIPATE. (Australian Press Association.—United Service.) LONDON, Aug. 26. The latest messages from Rome indicate that it has not yet been decided to withdraw from the race for the Schneider Cup. Indeed, the present intention is that Italy should participate in the contest for the trophy. The Italian Air Attache stated yesterday that Italy’s Schneider Trophy team had been withdrawn. DEATH OF CAPTAIN MOTTA. BRITAIN’S SYMPATHY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Aug. 25. Lord Thomson, Secretary of State for Air, has sent the following message to the Italian Air Minister: “The Air Council and Royal Air Force learn with deep regret of the death of Captain Guiseppe Motta, and tender thenprof ound sympathy.’ Captain Motta crashed during a trial flight on L'ako Garda, in Italy. UNITED STATES ELIMINATED. (Australian Press Association.) WASHINGTON, Aug. 25. The United States will not participate in the race for the Schneider Cup. Lieutenant Alford Williams made repeated attempts again to-day to fly his Mercury ’plane, of 1100 horsepower, but failed.
