CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS BALL. (From Our Own Correspondent). ASHHURST, Aug. 24. The Down Hall was tuxed to its full capacity on Friday evening, on the occasion ot tho school children’s annual fancy dress ball. For the last few weeks the children have been receiving instruction tor this important event and their deportment in the hall left nothing to be deshed, and the school teaching staff, Mr H. Fenwick (headmaster), Mrs Orgins and Misses Fenwick and Hanson, have every reason to feel gratified at the result of their efforts to make the ball a success. That tho parents had entered into the spirit of tho occasion was evidenced by tho excellent costumes of the children. Under tho leadership of Messrs \V. N. Brewer (chairman; und H. J. Woiodroofo (secretary) a liarti working band of committeemen and their wives wero responsible for a very dainty supper and an effectively decorated hall. A Monte Carlo fox trot was won by Beth Romley and Eon Fraser. At tho conclusion of tho children’s dancing, Mr Fenwick thanked thoso present for attending, stating that tho proceeds of tho function would be a big help to the school’s finances. Ho also expressed thanks to Mr A. J. Hnvill for allowing tho use of tho hall for practices, and to the members of tho committee and their wives for their assistance with tho arrangements. Dancing was continued until tho early hours of tho morning to excellent jnusio provided by an orchestra.
