PERSONAL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WOODVILLE, Aug. 27. Mr and Mrs H. P. Horne returned to Woodville on Friday last. Mr R. Lansdowne, of tho local railway staff, has been transferred to Carterton. Miss W. Tonkin is the guest of Mr and Mrs J. T. Horne. Mrs J. Little, of Kumeroa, is visiting Havelock North. Mr E.''T. Hale has been re-elected chairman of directors of Hopelands Dairy Coy., Ltd. ‘ Commissioner Hay, 0.8. E., of the Salvation Army, paid a brief farewell visit to Woodville on Sunday afternoon when he gave a short address to a largo gathering in tho Army Barracks. Mr L. J. Heavnes, late manager of the Hopelands Dairy Coy., Ltd., was fare welled by tho suppliers on Saturday afternoon and presented with a handsdme oak tray suitably inscribed. QUEEN CARNIVAL. The Municipal Band’s Queen Carnival was brought to a most successful clcwe on Friday evening. To wind up the carnival a “Paddy’s Market” was held in the Drill Hall, and the large building was taxed to its utmost holding capacity. Each candidate had a stall, the contents of which found a very ready sale, whjlst the various games and compotitipns received liberal support. The positions of the four candidates were announced every half hour, changes in positions taking place at nearly every announcement. Tho final result was announced by the carnival secretary (Mr R. R. Johnstpn) about 10 o’clock amidst much enthusiasm, the placings being:—Mrs Schroder, 36,761; Miss Ruddiek, 29,125; Miss Hutchinson, 23,403; Miss Anderson, 19,456. Competitions run in connection with the Carnival resulted as follow:—Canteen of cutlery, Mr D. Taylor; gold watch, Mr J. Home; shawl, Miss Dick; doll bride, Miss B. Leach; iced cake, Miss D. Hutchinson ; two bags of flour, two bags of sugar, roll of bacon and tin of tea, Mr J. Kinane; hearthrug, Mr J. R. Walker; half ton coal, Mr R. Jones; box of chocolates, Mis Elder; bicycle, Mi6s M. Richards and Mr R. Jones; tea set, Mr B. Moore. Altogether the promoters of the carnival are well pleased with the support given, and the band will now benefit to the extent of some £450. GENERAL. Two cars driven by Messrs A. Kinane and Rasmussen collided with some force at the interesection of Pinfold and Napier Roads on Saturday evening. Both cars were extensively damaged, but the drivers and passengers, beyond a few bruises and cuts, fortuntely escaped serious injury. On Friday evening Mrs L. E. Gleadow, of Maharahara West, was coming to Woodville in the side-car of a motor cycle ridden by her husband. In Pinfold Road the side-car collided with a cart driven by Mr H. Beagley. Mrs Gleadow and her infant child wero thrown out. The child fortunately escaped injury, but Mrs Gleadow fell heavily on her face, fracturing her nose and sustaining other injuries. She was attended by a doctor, and was later conveyed to tho Pahiatua Hospital. During the progress of the games at the Paddy’s Market held on Friday evening Mrs E. Perkins sustained a nasty blow upon the head, which rendered her tempoarily unconscious, but she later recovered.
