AIR STORM.
BRITISH ’PLANES DEFENDED. The broadcast statement by Captain Barnard, pilot for the Duchess of Bedford, on her record flight to India and back in 7i days, that such a feat would not have been possible with a British machine, has aroused fierce protest from British manufacturers. “Complete nonsense,” “just talk,” “obviously irresponsible and incorrect,” are some of the phrases used by Mr F. Handley Page and Major Wright (director of the Fairey Aviation Company). The London Evening News suggests that since the British Broadcasting Corporation is supported by British money, it is unjustified in broadcasting a disparagement of British industry. The corporation has retorted that it will broadcast a rejoinder to Captain Barnard’s assertion.
